17,500 VALUE CHANGES RECORDED IN VOLUME 6 OF THE
2007 SCOTT POSTAGE STAMP CATALOGUE

A robust stamp market continues to push values up in Volume 6 of the 2007 Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue. "Of the 17,500 value changes, almost all are increases, and some of the increases occur in countries and periods that the average collector may not expect," according to Scott Catalogue Editor James Kloetzel. Countries with a significant number of value changes include Togo, Tanzania, Sweden, Uganda, United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka.

Value changes are spread throughout the listings in the Solomon Islands. One of the larger increases is for the 1963-64 1p-2sh6p Queen Elizabeth II set with St. Edward's Crown and CA Multiple watermark, Scott 113-125, which jumps to $24.90 mint never hinged and $23.90 used, from $15.55 mint never hinged and $15.80 used in the 2006 Volume 6.

The changes recorded in Sri Lanka affect both mint never hinged and used stamps. Scott 721, the 1984 strip of four Cultural Pageant stamps, rises to $5.75 both mint never hinged and used, from $4.75 both ways in last year's volume. Another standout item is the Scott 1443, a sheet of 25 Bird stamps, which flies to $10 both mint never hinged and used, from just $2.40 both ways in 2006.

In Sweden, value increases are generally in the 10 percent range. Value changes begin with Scott 1, the 1855 3s blue green Coat of Arms stamp, which rises to $7,500 unused and $3,000 used, from $6,750 unused and $2,750 used last year. Other selected classics show moderate increases.

There is more noteworthy activity in the classics of Switzerland, from the Cantonals through the Seated Helvetias. Many of these stamps are up considerably in value, beginning with the 1843 Zurich 4r Numeral, Scott 1L1, which jumps to $20,000 unused and $17,500 used, from $16,500 unused and $14,000 used in 2006. The 1845 Basel Dove, Scott 3L1, moves to $14,000 unused and $12,500 used, from $10,250 unused and $9,600 used last year. A very significant upward move is seen in the set of 1867-78 Seated Helvetias, Scott 52-59, which soars to $646.35 unused and $284.55 used, from just $452.80 unused and $215.30 used last year. In Postage Dues, the 1882-83 10c-500c set on granite paper, Scott J10-J14, rises slightly in value, while the 1884-97 1c-500c olive green set with numerals in red, watermarked Cross in Oval, Scott J21-J28, decreases in value slightly.

In Tanzania, more than 2,242 value changes were made, starting in 1965 and running through the late 1990s. The 1973 5c-20sh Butterflies set, Scott 35-49, flutters to $29.10 both mint never hinged and used, from $16.75 mint never hinged and $11.95 used in last year's Volume 6. The 1976 Rail Transport souvenir sheet, Scott 65a, jumps significantly to $8.50 both mint never hinged and used, from $5.50 mint never hinged and $3.00 used last year.

In Togo, the value changes begin in 1915 and affect a wide range of material including Semi-Postals, Airmails, Postage Dues and Officials. The most startling increase is seen on the 1971 1000fr gold embossed Napolean Death Sesquicentennial stamp, Scott 780A. From just $12.50 both mint never hinged and used in 2006, this stamp soars to $40 both ways in 2007. A few sets of Togo are valued for the first time, such as the 1981 set of five stamps issued for the 1982 World Soccer Championships, Scott 1110A-1110E, now valued at $37.50 mint never hinged and $9.00 used.

There are a number of substantial value increases in the stamps of Uganda this year. The popular 1965 5c-20sh Bird set, Scott 97-110, moves to $59.30 mint never hinged and $35.35 used, from $50.00 mint never hinged and $30.00 used in 2006. The 1989 Wildlife sheet of 20, Scott 690, almost doubles to $22.00 both mint never hinged and used, from $12.00 both ways last year.

The color image project is moving rapidly toward completion. There are fewer than 200 black and white images in this Volume 6 that needs to be replaced by color scans. The conversion to full color stamp images is more than 99% complete for entire the 6-volume Standard Catalogue set.

The cover price for the printed version of Volume 6 and each subsequent 2007 Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue Volume is $57.99. The CD-ROM price for Volume 6 is $54.99. A package that includes print and CD-ROM versions of Volume 6 is also available for $94.99. The U.S. Specialized and the Fall U.S. Specialized Valuing Supplement will be released in October, and the Classic Specialized in November.
