22,000 VALUE CHANGES RECORDED IN VOLUME 4
OF THE 2007 SCOTT POSTAGE STAMP CATALOUGE

Market forces have pushed values up in Volume 4 of the 2007 Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue. In addition to the 22,000 value changes, more than 1,600 new values for the stamps of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea issued between 1987 and 1994 that have been added to the catalogue this year.

Countries with the most activity in Volume 4 include Maldives Islands, Malaysia, Montserrat, Monaco, Malawi, Malta, and New Zealand. The increases posted in Maldives Islands span all periods. Increases of 10 to 20 percent are common throughout. The 1963 2l-5r Fish set, Scott 109-116, shows a significant value increase to $14.65 mint never hinged and used, from $10.15 both ways in 2006.

The value changes in Malaysia are all advances, and the larger increases are seen in the stamps of the later 1980s and 1990s. One noteworthy example is the 1983 15c-80c Armed Forces 50th Anniversary set, Scott 262-265. It climbs to $9.15 mint never hinged and $1.95 used, from $5.05 mint never hinged and $1.10 used in 2006. The accompanying souvenir sheet, Scott 265a, doubles to $15.00 both mint never hinged and used. A modern issue that shows a large gain is the 1998 sheet of nine for the 16th Commonwealth Games, Scott 681F, which more than doubles to $11 both mint never hinged and used, from $5.00 both ways last year. While most value increases are less startling, there are numerous large increases in many later sets.

In Montserrat, value changes run the gamut from small to large. An example of modest increase is the 1989 90c-$3.50 20th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing set, Scott 726-729, which moves to $4.45 both mint never hinged and used, from $3.65 both ways in 2006. The souvenir sheet, Scott 730, jumps to $7.25 both ways from just $3.50. The very next set, however, shows a huge increase in value. This is the 1990 70c-$3.50 World War II Battle Ships set, Scott 731-734, which skyrockets to $24.50 both mint never hinged and used, from just $5.00 both ways last year. The souvenir sheet, Scott 735, shows a similar increase, to $20.00 both mint never hinged and used, from just $4.00 last year.

In Monaco more than 1,000 value changes were recorded starting in the 1950s, where mostly modest increases were posted. A number of significant increases were recorded in Malawi, particularly for wildlife issues. The 1968 Birds set, Scott 95-109, already a bit pricey in 2006 at $67.50 mint never hinged and $65.50 used, moves higher still, to $73.95 mint never hinged and a whopping $91.75 used. Another Bird set, Scott 233-245 from 1975, moves to $61.20 mint never hinged and $50.40 used, from $54.00 mint never hinged and $31.50 used in 2006. A massive increase is seen in the 1978 4t-40t Wildlife Fund set, Scott 319-322, which leaps to $58.50 mint never hinged and $14.10 used, from $28.50 mint never hinged and $6.75 used last year. The accompanying souvenir sheet, Scott 322a, doubles in value to $80.00 mint never hinged and $40.00 used.

The value changes in Malta are concentrated in the 1980s and 1990s and tend to be in the 5 to 10 percent range. Classic material rose significantly in New Zealand. Scott 70-83, the 1898 1/2p-5sh pictorial definitives, moves to $1,199.50 unused from $752.75 last year, and the used set also rises in value.

On the editorial side, the huge project to list the stamps of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea continues, with all stamps issued between 1987 and 1994 listed and valued this year, Scott 2617-3417.

The cover price for the printed version of Volume 4 and each subsequent 2007 Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue Volume is $57.99. The CD-ROM price for Volume 4 is $54.99.
