MARKET CONTINUES TO PUSH VALUES UP IN VOLUME 3
OF 2007 SCOTT POSTAGE STAMP CATALOUGE

More than 15,000 value changes were made in Volume 3 and, like the value changes in the previous volumes published this year, these changes are driven by the market and not by currency exchange rates. Widespread value increases appear in Great Britain and British Offices Abroad, Grenada, Greece, Guyana, Hong Kong, Hungary and Iraq. Volume 3 contains countries of the world G-I.

In Great Britain, the value changes are virtually all increases. There are some significant jumps in selected classic issues. Scott 1, the 1840 1p black, moves to $6,000 unused and $275 used, from $5,175 unused and $260 used in the 2006 Volume 3. The 1882 £5 bright orange Victoria, Scott 93, rises to $9,000 unused and 4,250 used, from $8,000 unused and $4,000 used last year. Values rise for almost all Great Britain Officials.

More than 2,600 value changes were made in Grenada and Grenada Grenadines. Much of this activity was concentrated in issues between 1935 and the mid-1990s. Scott 1230-1231, the 1984 $5 Paintings by Corieggio souvenir sheets, more than double to $6.25 each mint never hinged and used, from just $3 each both ways last year. Scott 1858-1862A, the 1990 10c-$5 Summer Olympics set, rises to $15.95 mint never hinged and $15.05 used, from $13.80 both mint never hinged and used in 2006. On the editorial side, the "Children Need Milk" surcharges on the 1966 Queen Elizabeth II high values, Scott 227-229, have been listed as the country’s first set of semi-postals, Scott B1A-B1D.

Notable increases in Greece include the 1861 1d chocolate on brownish Hermes, Scott 1, which jumps from $300 used and unused to $325 both ways. Also on the move was, Scott 539-544, the 1951 700d-5,000d set for the Marshall plan, which rises to $174.50 mint never hinged and $3.45 used, from $153.20 mint never hinged and $2.10 used.

In Hong Kong, a number of moderate increases were recorded for classic material. Typical is Scott 71-85, the 1c-$10 1903 King Edward VII definitives, which rise to $2,729 unused and $1,814 used, from $2,440 unused and $1682 used last year.

More than 1,000 value changes were made in Hungary. Some noteworthy examples include Scott 1300, the 1960 souvenir sheet for the FIP Congress, which soars to $13.50 both mint never hinged and used, from $6.75 mint never hinged and $5.75 used, while Scott 3442B, the 1996 souvenir sheet for the 1100th anniversary of Magyar Hungary, leaps to $11 both mint never hinged and used, from $6 both ways in 2006. Eleven major numbers and seven minor varieties were added in Hungary for stamps issued under Romanian or Serbian occupations. Twelve of these additions are in the First Drebecen issues, the 2N numbers. All of the additions represent stamps that specialist research has demonstrated were regularly issued stamps.

Other significant changes include the addition of one major number and one minor number in Iran. The major is Scott 14A, the 1s black imperf issue of 1876, a stamp quite distinct from (and more valuable than) the 1s gray black of the 1876 Coat of Arms definitives. The minor number addition is Scott 44a, an imperf pair of the 1880 2s yellow and black Nasser-eddin Shah, valued only used.

The cover price for the printed version of Volume 3 and each subsequent 2007 Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue Volume is $57.99. The CD-ROM price for Volume 3 is $54.99. A package that includes print and CD-ROM versions of Volume 3 is also available for $94.99. Volume 4 (Countries of the World J-O) will be released in July, Volume 5 (Countries of the World P-Slovenia) in August, Volume 6 (Countries of the World Solomon Islands-Z) in September, the U.S. Specialized and the Fall U.S. Specialized Valuing Supplement in October, and the Classic Specialized in November.
